Heat Treat Oven

I ended up getting this pottery kiln for the low, low price of free. It wasn't working - most of the wiring had been cut out of it, and the heating elements were in bad shape.

I removed the 1970s electronics and replaced them with an inexpensive PID controller and large SSR. Instead of the existing elements, I used a twisted length of kanthal wire, cut to achieve the desired resistance. The pottery kiln was quite large, but it was in sections. I restacked the bottom and top to make a smaller volume - only one 'unit' high, as seen in the photos below. I was able to use this oven for a few projects. The photo at the top is of some impactors for Scuttle, my combat robot (they are being tempered in my household oven).

Overall, the oven had difficulty holding heat. I've since decommissioned this tool. I removed the Frankenstein's lab wiring job (lest someone electrocute themselves), and sent the non-working kiln along its path - the free stuff section of Craigslist.
